What is the difference between positive and negative side waterproofing?

Positive-side waterproofing is applied to the exterior wall face that actually contacts groundwater, blocking water before it reaches the concrete. Negative-side waterproofing is applied to the interior face, managing water that has already reached the structure, used mainly for existing buildings where exterior excavation isn't practical.

How much does basement waterproofing cost?

Basement waterproofing in India typically costs Rs 40-150 per sq ft, with cementitious coatings at the lower end, and crystalline or PU-based membrane systems at the higher end in exchange for significantly longer service life.

Can basement waterproofing be done after construction?

Yes, negative-side waterproofing and crack injection are specifically designed for this scenario, and are the standard remedial approach for existing buildings with basement seepage, though they manage water reaching the structure rather than blocking it beforehand.

How do I stop groundwater seepage in my basement?

Effective seepage control starts with diagnosing the exact entry points, treating any active leaks with crack injection, then applying a negative-side waterproofing system such as crystalline slurry or a cementitious or polymer coating across the affected surface, combined with functioning drainage.

What is negative-side waterproofing?

It's a waterproofing approach applied to the interior, dry face of a below-grade wall, used to resist water pressure and seepage from the outside without requiring excavation, the standard remedial method for existing occupied basements.

Is basement waterproofing needed in Hyderabad's soil?

Yes, while Hyderabad's hard-rock terrain generally drains more favorably than soft alluvial soil elsewhere in India, groundwater levels vary by locality and season, and site-specific conditions, not general geology, should determine the waterproofing approach for any given basement project.
